Veteran wins another race

Makua competed in the Lion Glencore fun run last Friday, September 9, in Steelpoort.

STEELPOORT – Veteran runner Daniel “Marathon” Makua (55) has added another gold medal to his already colourful cabinet.

Makua competed in the Lion Glencore fun run last Friday, September 9, in Steelpoort.

He won the 16km race in the master’s category in 01:22:04.

“It was a good race for me and I am glad I managed to win it. As runners, we encourage local companies to continue organising these kinds of events. This gives us the opportunity to compete against other runners.”

Makua sadly failed to compete in the 2022 Comrades Marathon.

“I have participated in 11 Comrades Marathons. I did not attend the one in 2022 because I had no sponsors. I need help and sponsors to ensure I do my 12th Comrades Marathon.”

He pleaded with local businesses to sponsor athletes in Tubatse. “For now I will continue training on my own, waiting for upcoming competitions.”
