Toyota Starlet wedged into ditch after crash on Ohrigstad road

This is the third accident in this hotspot in three weeks.

A young woman sustained minor injuries on Tuesday (September 27) at 16:00 when her Toyota Starlet allegedly hit a pothole and the vehicle was wedged into a ditch next to the road. The collision happened about 16km from Lydenburg towards Ohrigstad.

This stretch of road from the Spekboom Bridge, past Krugerspost towards the Pilgrim’s Rest turn-off (R533) was designated an accident hotspot.

On Tuesday September 13, a chrome ore truck collided with a delivery van just before 15:00. The truck driver sustained injuries to his left leg. This incident was only a few metres away from where the Toyota Starlet recently landed in the ditch.

Members of the SAPS, Thaba Chweu Emergency Rescue Services, Netcare 911 and the Lydenburg Traffic Department were on the scene to lend assistance at all three of the above incidents.

Some of the emergency workers filled up the pothole that had allegedly caused the September 27 accident.
