Festival of Chariots to hit Mbombela
If you are at the Promenade Shopping Centre on Saturday, October 1, join in the festivities of the Festival of Chariots.
The Festival of Chariots, also known as Ratha Yatra or the Cart Festival, is coming to Mbombela.
“Originating from an ancient tradition in India, it is a cultural event promoting love, joy, singing and dancing of the highest form,” said Guru Kanniah Shrini, the organiser of the parade.
“It is celebrated across the globe in countries as far and unique as Thailand, Russia, UK, Canada, Poland, Mauritius, Zambia and Botswana on an annual basis.”

The parade will start at the Promenade Shopping Centre at 10:30 on Saturday. The general public is welcome to join in the singing and dancing as the parade will go through the streets of the city centre.
Shrini said nearly 1 000 plates of sumptuous biryani and legendary soji dessert, and juice, will be distributed to the public.
