Ehlanzeni taxi associations demand premier’s intervention

The meeting between the taxi associations and MEC for public works, roads and transport, did not yield any positive results, and they decided to escalate the matter.

The battle between various taxi associations, the Ehlanzeni Business Forum and Buscor is far from over.

This was evident on Thursday October 6, following a marathon meeting between the associations and the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, which served as a follow-up meeting between the two parties after the first one they had had last week.

The taxi associations held protests across the City of Mbombela last week, demanding that Buscor buses operate within certain hours so that the associations could gain more income during the others.

The department’s MEC, Mohita Latchminarain, told the media that the meeting did not bear any fruits. The taxi associations therefore opted to escalate the matter to Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane.

They had earlier indicated that they would take this matter further up to the Office of the Premier should the department fail to find solutions.
