Pedestrian and alleged goat thief die tragically

Following the incident, the provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, warned of harsh consequences for anyone who takes the law into their own hands.

MECKLENBURG – Two people died when three alleged goat thieves were stoned and their car torched in Moroke on September 29.

The police were called out after some community members had been seen chasing a motor vehicle all the way from Mafefe to Moroke.

“Preliminary investigations indicated that while the suspects were trying to escape, they knocked down a pedestrian. He died on scene. The deceased was identified as the 30-year-old Sekepe Kobeene from Bothabothe, Lesotho.

“Meanwhile, Collen Keago (31) was stoned to death as their vehicle was set alight. The two other suspects escaped on foot,” said the Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafelo Mojapelo.

Following the incident, the provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, warned of harsh consequences for anyone who takes the law into their own hands. She urged people to report criminal acts to the police and let the law take its course.

“Vigilantism will not be tolerated nor accepted as a way of dealing with crime,” she said. “Anyone found to have participated in such acts will be arrested and face the full might of the law.”
