The event is suitable for people of all age groups, people with disabilities, athletes and many more.
“It was a fun-filled day with loads of entertainment that encouraged families, communities and athletes to actively participate in various recreational activities that promote family togetherness and living healthy and active lifestyles,” said the departmental spokesperson, Jermina Kaka.

“The main aim of the programme is to promote social cohesion and nation-building; furthermore, to encourage people to take up the habit of walking on regular basis, and to begin to engage in walking as a conscious choice in leisure-time activities.”

She said the programme was prompted by the ever-increasing number of obesity and high incidence of heart attacks among the communities.

“Walking is an effective form of physical activity for improving the cardiovascular system that is the heart, blood vessels and lungs.”

One of the organisers, Mbasa Ngumla, encouraged the participants to continue to choose to be active and normalise an active lifestyle.

“Walking is an effective form of physical activity. Make it a habit and your body will thank you immensely. It will be able to fight off lifestyle diseases and keep fit at all times.”
