More medals for Ngwaabe Boxing Club

The boxers won 12 gold medals in the Club Development Boxing Tournament.

Boxing is being resurrected in Sekhukhune and Fetakgomo Tubatse. One of the people contributing to the improvement of the sport is Beverly Mmadi.

She is the coach, club manager and a boxer at Ngwaabe Boxing Club. Mmadi is also an acting chairperson of the Sekhukhune Boxing Association.

On Saturday, she took 17 young club boxers to compete against other ones at Peter Nchabeleng Hall in Schoonoord. The boxers competed in the Club Development Boxing Tournament.

The tourney was organised by Sekhukhune Youth Confederation, Sekhukhune Boxing Organisation and the Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.

“My boxers performed wonders. Ngwaabe Boxing Club had 17 boxers who participated against other clubs and we happy to announce that of those 17, we had 12 wins (gold medallists ) and five losses (silver medallists).

“The tournament had 10 clubs participating with Ngwaabe being one of the top teams.”

Mmadi said Ngwaabe also won trophies for best male boxer, Promise Makgalemele Kgopane, and best female boxer, Phomelelo Tolo.

It is not the first time that this club has flown the local flag high. In August five boxers competed at Malamulele and qualified to represent Limpopo at the National Championships of Cadets and Juniors to be hosted in Durban in December.

Mmadi told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that she wishes to see the sport grow in Tubatse and surroundings. “We plead for support and sponsors in order to grow boxing.”
