Political leadership condemns GBVF in Burgersfort
The suspect was arrested in Praktiseer on November 30 by the Burgersfort SAPS.
A Burgersfort woman has allegedly been murdered by her male partner.
The incident happened during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence and Femicide.
The 16 Days of Activism is an annual international campaign that runs until December 10 with the theme: “Unite! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.
Godfrey Kgomoetswana Mohlala appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on December 1 for the murder of Lilly Letta Motau of Ga-Manoke.
Motau’s body was discovered with severe stab wounds at her home on November 28.
The suspect was arrested in Praktiseer on November 30 by the Burgersfort SAPS.
His case was postponed to today for a formal bail application. He was remanded in custody.
The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality mayor, Eddie Maila, condemned the incident when he visited the family last week.
“We condemn the senseless killing of defenseless people by men. We need justice for this woman. The culprit must rot in jail.”
Maila commended the Burgersfort SAPS and local communities for assisting in arresting the suspect a few days after he allegedly committed the crime.

On Tuesday, Sekhukhune District Municipality executive mayor, Maleke Mokganyetji, visited Appiesdoring, which is next to Ga Manoke, to urge communities to desist from gender-based violence and to blow the whistle on such crimes.
Motau was buried on Sunday at Ga Manoke Cemetery.
Since June, Steelburger/Lydenburg News reported on more than 10 incidents in which women were killed by their partners.
