Warnings of closed road between Sabie and Hazyview go unheeded

Motorists who persist in using the closed road will be charged with trespassing if discovered.

Despite stern warnings from authorities, some motorists are still using the R536, which was damaged by the recent flooding.
This road between Sabie and Hazyview, which had been barricaded for the safety of motorists, was illegally opened and the road closure signs were removed.

The spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, said law enforcement had been asked to intervene and warned that those persisting in these acts will be charged with trespassing if discovered.

“Once again, we are warning motorists to use an alternative route instead of the closed roads. They are putting their lives in danger and must avoid being charged,” he said.

Mmusi said the section of the R40 next to Klipkopjes Dam is still operating on a stop-and-go basis.
The route between Sabie and Hazyview, as well as the R40 between Barberton and the Josefsdal Border Post located on the Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail, remain closed until further notice.
