The MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta), Mandla Msibi, is reeling with shock following the assassination of Chief Clyde Sizwe Mnisi of the Mnisi Traditional Council of Islington in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.

Msibi lamented his death. “Cogta is deeply saddened by this assassination. We call on the police to pursue the assassins, so that they may face the full might of the law. Mnisi’s death has left a significant void in the institution of traditional leadership in our province.”

The Provincial House of Traditional Leaders and Khoi-San (HTLKS) reiterated Msibi’s call for the suspects’ arrest. The chairperson of HTLKS, Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena, grieved the incident. He said Mnisi had dedicated his life to the service of his community, for development through a variety of projects.

“Hosi Mnisi was a true embodiment of selfless leadership. His commitment to the well-being of his community was unquestionable. He consistently carried out his responsibilities with the utmost respect. Hosi Mnisi served his community with distinction,” Mokoena said.

Mnisi had been coroneted as a senior traditional leader of the Mnisi Traditional Council in October 2022.

Both Msibi and Mokoena conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the Mnisi royal family.

Mnisi’s assassination took place on the KMI Airport road on March 26. The motive for his assassination is still unknown.
