Manhunt launched after ATM bombing at Ga Rantho

A group of unknown, heavily armed suspects allegedly stormed into the Shell filling station and bombed an Absa ATM.

The Sekhukhune SAPS launched a manhunt for the robbers who blasted an ATM open in Ga-Rantho on Thursday at about 02:00.

“According to information, a group of unknown men, armed with firearms, entered the garage and started to shoot randomly. They proceeded to the ATMs, set their explosives and blasted one of them. They got away with an undisclosed amount of money,” said the Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

According to Ledwaba, the SAPS was summoned to the scene. On arrival, the suspects, driving in a white Toyota Legend 45 and a blue Volkswagen Polo, saw the police and started shooting at them.

“The police retaliated and a crossfire ensued. One of the suspects, about 35 years of age, was shot and fatally wounded in the process, while his accomplices managed to evade arrest,” he said.
