Schoemanskloof accident kills one, injures two

A head-on collision between two vehicles on the N4 in Schoemanskloof left one person dead and two others injured.

One person died and two others have been rushed to hospital following a vehicle collision on the N4 in Schoemanskloof at the Bambi/Lydenburg turn-off this morning, May 11.

According to Emer-G-Med’s Martin Jeffrey, an SUV with one occupant was travelling in the direction of Johannesburg and a Ford Figo with two occupants was travelling in the direction of Mbombela when they collided head-on.

He said the passenger in the Ford succumbed to their injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
The driver of the SUV sustained moderate to minor injuries and was transported by Emer-G-Med to a hospital in Middelburg. The driver of the Ford also sustained moderate to minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Emgwenya (formerly Waterval Boven) by provincial emergency services.

The cause of the accident is unknown and local authorities were on the scene for further investigation. TRAC said that the road has since been cleared and is now open.
