Ikageng Clinic nurse applauded for heroic act at accident scene

A healthcare worker based at Ikageng Clinic has been commended for her heroic acts at an accident scene.
She saved a life of a pedestrian who was critically injured after he was hit by a car. Rose Leso, the operational manager of Ikageng Clinic in Fetakgomo, is considered a champion.
While on her way to work last Tuesday she came across an accident scene in which a pedestrian was critically injured after he was hit by a car.
Leso immediately jumped out of her car and managed the patient as best as she could, right in the middle of the road, in order to safe his life while calling Emergency Medical Services.
“With no paramedic close to the scene, EMS dispatched a helicopter to the scene.
Leso provided a pin drop, assisted with the road closure and with the safe landing of the helicopter,” said the Limpopo Health Department spokesperson, Neil Shikwambana.
“Her swift response and actions played a huge role in saving the life of the patient who was in a critical condition. The concern and empathy that she displayed at the scene bestows so much pride, not only on the department, but also on nursing as a noble profession. She could have chosen not to be bothered since she was not in uniform, but she has proven that nursing is not about the uniform and the profession, but a heart for
fellow humans,” he said.
Through Leso’s intervention, the patient was airlifted to Polokwane, where he is receiving medical care.
Limpopo health MEC Phophi Ramathuba declared Leso a heroine.
“We are proud of what she has done at the scene. She has once again proven that we still have nurses who don’t look at their jobs as a profession, but a calling,” Ramathuba said.
