Suspects arrested for transportation of chrome in Tubatse

The driver failed to provide the necessary documents for transporting and being in possession of the metal.

Three suspects are scheduled to apply for bail in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court today, September 7.

They were arrested by members of the SAPS’s Provincial Illegal Mining Task Team in Steelpoort on August 30 at about 22:40 for the possession and transportation of chrome.

They first appeared in court on September 1. The case was postponed for a formal bail application, and they were remanded in custody.

“The police were performing their routine patrols when they spotted a white tipper truck at the four-way stop on the R555 to Steelpoort. They approached and stopped and searched the truck, which contained the driver and two occupants,” said the Limpopo SAPS’s spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

The truck was found loaded with chrome. The driver failed to provide the necessary documents for transporting and being in possession of the metal. The three suspects were arrested.

The truck and the chrome were confiscated. According to the SAPS, they are worth R800 000.
The investigation into this case is ongoing.
