The alleged killer of a pregnant woman was arrested by the police when his bakkie was traced near KaNyamazane.
The Nelspruit SAPS has arrested a 33-year-old man who is believed to have shot and killed a pregnant woman in the Mbombela CBD on Wednesday morning, September 6.
The man was arrested in Lows Creek on Thursday night, September 7, following an investigation by the Nelspruit SAPS detectives and Mpumalanga Provincial Task Team.
A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the police had also recovered a pistol and ammunition from the man during his arrest.
Mdhluli said it was about 05:20 on Wednesday when the suspect, driving a white Isuzu bakkie, shot and killed a 36-year-old woman, who was believed to have been pregnant at the time.

Lowvelder arrived at the scene in Samora Machel Drive, near Buscor’s bus terminals. According to some eyewitnesses, the woman was shot after she had gotten out of a taxi. They claimed the suspect drew his firearm and shot her in the right leg. She fell down, and the man allegedly shot her in the head twice before driving off in Valencia’s direction.
The witnesses phoned the police and the paramedics. Emer-G-Med responded and declared the woman dead on the scene. Mdhluli said the suspect was traced after the bakkie was recovered at Mara near KaNyamazane at about 12:00 on the day of the murder.
“The suspect is facing a murder charge. More charges could possibly be added against him as the investigation continues. This includes information that the woman was expecting at the time she was killed. The motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage,” said Mdhluli.
The suspect is due to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday September 11.
