PCA facilitates surgery for 18-month-old girl
A surgery for an 18-month-old, born with a cleft palate, was performed by a well-known Mbombela doctor. The surgery was facilitated by PCA.
An 18-month-old girl born with a submucous cleft palate received surgery from a well-known Mbombela plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr Puritan Madzhia on Tuesday, September 19.
The surgery was facilitated by Pediatric Care Africa (PCA). PCA said the parents of the little girl, who lives in Johannesburg, contacted them for help after being sent from hospital to hospital in search of someone to complete the surgery.
Dr André Hattingh of PCA said the ideal age for this type of surgery is when the baby is between six to 12 months old.

“Dr Madzhia performed a palatoplasty on her, and we are very grateful for the doctor’s willingness to assist us. Her surgery took just over three hours.”
He said it would greatly improve her quality of life, making it much easier for her to speak more clearly and eat without any problems.
“This little girl now has a chance to live her life to the fullest, without stigma or barriers. Thank you Dr Madzhia we appreciate you,” Hattingh said.
