FTLM council resolves to improve economy
FTLM is one of the municipalities in the Sekhukhune District Municipality.
The recent Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) special council sitting at the chamber resolved to boost the local economy and transform the local municipality into a city.
FTLM’s mayor, Eddie Maila, said Vision 2043 is to develop Fetakgomo Tubatse City. “The vision towards the city cannot be realised without economic growth and the availability of land for such activities to
take place.”
During the session, the FTLM council approved the sale of land for the development of Moroke Mall by the Kgapola Group, subject to public participation processes.
The investment of the mall is around R200m with space to accommodate 60 shops. The construction will create 90 jobs and after completion, over 800 permanent ones.

There is also the development of a new filling station at Apiesdoringdraai. The R7m investment will create 12 permanent jobs, outsource services like security and will take six months to be completed.
According to the council, this is a female-driven initiative and it fits well into the FTLM’s vision to empower local women.
The Steelpoortdrift Farm is earmarked as a game changer for FTLM, as the area will host light industries, a government precinct, the retail sector, a housing development and an office complex.
There will be 4 000 urban housing units, which will alleviate housing and rental stock in Burgersfort. The aggregated investment will be over R4b and over
30 000 job opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Ratsoma Group will invest over R450m into the expansion of Bopedi Shopping Complex in Apel and the construction of a new mall in Atok.
The projects will run from October 2023 to March 2025 and over 2 000 permanents jobs will be created.
“These milestones will help the FTLM to confront the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality, as many will benefit in terms of employment and business opportunities. The municipality will continue to update the community in terms of future developments that will make a huge impact on their lives. All these developments will bring an investment of R5b into the local economy.”
