WATCH: Letaba staff evacuated as KNP floods reach 26-year high

Another 100-200mm rainfall is expected in the days ahead.

SANParks has confirmed that rising water at the Letaba Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP) has reached the level seen during the 2000 floods. Water is flowing into the camp itself, forcing SANParks to evacuate both visitors and staff.

While KNP officials continue to battle with overflowing rivers and floods in camps and at gates, the the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has forecast continuing rain until January 19.

This video of the Letaba Rest Camp staff being evacuated was captured by SANParks:

The heavy rain and flooding has not been restricted to the park itself. Malalane business owner Lex Hollman resides on the banks of the Crocodile River and has been capturing footage of the water level with cameras on his property.
