SPONSORED: Attention all citizens of Mpumalanga

Bokamoso Machika, the reigning Miss Mpumalanga, warns against alcohol abuse and irresponsible gambling.

I’m Bokamoso Machika, proudly serving as Miss Mpumalanga 2023 and honoured to be the Ambassador for the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER).
As we celebrate Consumer Month, it’s time to shed light on the critical issue of responsible gambling and alcohol consumption within our communities. It’s essential that we all understand our rights when it comes to engaging in these activities.

Heed the call: Gamble and drink responsibly.
First and foremost, let’s remember that moderation is key. Gambling and alcohol should be enjoyed responsibly and never to excess. They should be seen as forms of entertainment, not avenues for financial gain.

Take control of your limits.
You have the right to set your own boundaries. If you find yourself spending too much time or money on gambling, you have the power to set limits and take control. Contact the MER for assistance with self-exclusion programmes if you need a break.

Your voice matters: Speak up.
If you witness any activities that may breach gambling or liquor licensing laws, don’t hesitate to speak out. Our communities play a vital role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all.

Your rights matter: Refuse service if necessary.
When it comes to alcohol consumption, remember that you have the right to refuse service. If you feel you’ve had enough or simply choose not to drink, your wishes must be respected by retailers.

Join us in promoting responsible choices.
Let’s work together to foster a culture of responsible behaviour within our communities. Together, we can create safer and more enjoyable environments for everyone.

Remember, your actions today impact our tomorrow.
This message is proudly brought to you by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, an entity of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

Join the movement: Gamble and drink responsibly.

Together, let’s make a difference. Thank you for your attention and commitment to responsible choices.
