Hlatlogang Sewing and Tailor aims to empower women

DCM has in the past year donated an embroidery machine, a buttonhole machine and a laptop

Hlatlogang Sewing and Tailor is a 100% women-owned co-operative based in Ga-Mampuru Village. It was founded by elderly members of the community who recognised the importance of giving back by creating affordable school uniforms for local schools. Their vision was to support families in the community while also creating income-generating opportunities for women.

Although the co-operative initially focused on sewing school uniforms, it has since grown and expanded its services. Today, Hlatlogang Sewing and Tailor also offers general sewing and embroidery services for a wide range of clothing and apparel.

Hlatlogang Sewing and Tailor would like to express sincere appreciation to Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM) for its continued support and generous contributions over the years. The partnership between DCM and the co-operative began in 2019, when the mine donated two sewing machines and two overlock machines. This donation served as a foundation to unlock local talent and create economic opportunities for the women involved.

As the business grew, DCM continued to support its development. A few years later, the mine donated a container structure to provide the co-operative with a dedicated and safe working space. At the time, the container was sufficient to meet their operational needs.

In 2025, recognising the need to improve productivity and efficiency, DCM further supported the Hlatlogang by donating an embroidery machine, a buttonhole machine, software and a laptop. To end the year on a positive note, the mine also installed clear-view fencing at the co-operative’s current workspace.

DCM remains committed to supporting local communities and plans to continue working with initiatives such as Hlatlogang Sewing and Tailor to drive sustainable development and economic growth.
