KAMHLUSHWA – Local members of Cosatu have shown solidarity with banned democratic parties in Swaziland.
This came to light last Friday, when the union hosted a workshop at the KaMhlushwa Community Hall.
According to the secretary of the Nkomazi branch, Mr Kabelo Monepya, the aim was to show solidarity with banned democratic parties in Swaziland, in their struggle for democracy.
“Today we are expressing solidarity with some of the political parties which have been banned in Swaziland. We can no longer sit back and relax when we know that the situation is so bad. Things have deteriorated to the extent that children cross the borders to South Africa on a daily basis in an effort to survive.
“There are even parents and elderly citizens who enter the country monthly to collect social grants,” Monepya told Corridor Gazette.
He added their aim was to mobilise members of the party to put pressure on Swaziland’s economic activities in Nkomazi.
Among the dignitaries in attendance was the national deputy chairman of the Communist Party of Swaziland, comrade
Mr Jeff Mkhatshwa.
Mkhatshwa spoke at length on how the Swaziland regime was oppressing its people.
