Rape suspects back in court

Today the four suspects accused of the rape and murder of Eva Mashaba (62) will appear again in the Tonga Magistrate court.

TONGA – Messrs Dion Masinga (23), Mandlenkosi Mavuso (22), Lwazi Sibiya (21) and Walter Maziba (19) will make their next court appearance in February.
The four men are accused of the rape and murder of the elderly Ms Eva Mashaba (62) of KaMaqhekeza last July.
The accused appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court last Thursday, after they had made their last appearance where their case was postponed and they were kept in police custody while they applied for a state lawyer.
Community members of KaMaqhekeza have not forgotten the act of the accused and are attentively following the case and court proceedings.
“We are tired of rape, murder, and robbers in our community. We don’t want such people in our community. Jail is the perfect and only place for criminals such as them. To rape and kill an old person, they should remain behind bars,” said one of the protesters.
Community members were, however, once more disappointed as they hoped that this would have been the accused’s final appearance.
Mr Mduduzi Lukhuleni of the African National Congress Youth League said, “We are disappointed of the court’s decision but we hope that they will remain in jail until they are sentenced. We do not hate them but we hate their wrongdoings.”
