NELSPRUIT – While many Lowvelders had a pleasant weekend, some had a bitter experience. From Thursday to Monday three robberies were reported in the Nelspruit area.
The most recent incident occurred on Monday just after 00:00 at a complex in Graniet Street. A woman called Hi-Tech after she saw a man in her garage. The suspect allegedly used the fishing method to obtain the house keys and two cellphones from her house.
She yelled at him and he ran away with the cellphones and items of clothing. Hi-Tech officials found him two houses from where the first incident took place, trying to break into another house. They said they found some more stolen objects, cellphones, clothes and keys in his possession. The police arrested him.
Another incident occurred on Sunday at 03:00 in Duiker Street. After the resident arrived at his home, three suspects followed him to his garage. The one allegedly held a gun to his head while the others took his house keys, car keys, cellphone and laptop.
He contacted Hi-Tech, but when they arrived on the scene the suspects had already fled. They searched for them but did not find anything. SAPS were called to the scene to take fingerprints. The operational manager at Bossies Community Justice, Mr Jacques Meiring confirmed that no suspects have been arrested yet and no items have been found.
On Thursday at about 02:20, a man in Kremetart Street saw two suspects jump over his fence. He immediately pressed his panic button and Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit arrived on the scene. They arrested one suspect and chased after the second one.
A Hi-Tech guard and the suspect fell down 2,5m into a small river, and here the guard got the upper hand. Both the suspects were cuffed and handed over to the SAPS.
The police confirmed that they could be linked to several break-ins in the area of Kremetart and Koraalboom Streets.
Hi-Tech offered some tips to stay safe during the festive season. The security company suggested that residents invest in motion-sensor floodlights and motion-sensor alarms or even some outdoor Christmas lights to highlight their home’s exterior.
This will make approaching a home too conspicuous for a burglar. Highlighting the fact that one’s possessions are security marked and one’s alarm system is with Hi-Tech Security.
