NELSPRUIT – Mr Chris Hobkirk of the MTPA has confirmed that a three or possible more lions have been spotted in the Claremont area near Nelspruit.

Two confirmed sightings were reported on Tuesday but the lions have possibly been in the area for much longer.

The exact whereabouts of the lions are unknown at the moment and MTPA is monitoring the situation.

“They are very illusive,” said Hobkirk.

Should the lions be sighted the MTPA will attempt to capture and relocate them. “Destroying the lions will be a last resort,” said Hobkirk.

He also reiterated that the lions hold no danger for humans.
