Child porn albums presented in court

The albums containing the pictures were received from the cyber unit which had retrieved them from the couples' laptop

NELSPRUIT – Albums full of child pornography photos were handed in as evidence in the trial of the Barberton couple charged with child pornography involving their own seven year old daughter, in the local Regional Court on Monday.

The father (37) and mother (33) are accused of possessing, manufacturing, and distributing child pornography as well as grooming for sexual purposes.

Prosecutor Ms Elise du Plessis stated that the case should be postponed due to the defence having to view two albums handed in as evidence. One shows sexually explicit pictures of the mother, and the other, photos of the little girl.

The albums containing the pictures were received from the cyber unit which had retrieved them from the couples’ laptop.

Du Plessis also asked the court that the couple should be warned again not to try and contact their child and not to contact the state, but to work through their attorney.

Magistrate Mr Roelf Smith warned the couple not to violate their bail conditions or they would be immediately revoked. He postponed the case to May 12.

Last year, the parents were arrested at Cash Converters in Nelspruit . The father was in the process of selling a cellphone and a laptop when a vigilant shop assistant noticed a video of a woman and a little girl apparently performing a strip dance and making explicit gestures.

The shop assistant immediately contacted Bossies Community Justice’s Mr Jacques Meiring.

Meiring contacted the police’s Family Violence and Sexual Offences Unit.

The girl was taken to a safe haven.
