MBOMBELA – Lowvelders can expect load shedding this weekend. The system is expected to remain tight over the evening peaks for the next few days. While the demand for electricity is expected to be met today and tomorrow, there is a very high risk of load shedding over the weekend.
A portion of the capacity normally imported from Cahora Bassa will be unavailable on Sunday as the plant undergoes urgent planned maintenance.The weekend will also be utilised to build up water reserves for the pumped storage schemes which use water to generate electricity.
They need to conserve diesel supplies to support the week ahead. The capacity available to meet demand for electricity will be reduced as a result thereby increasing the need for rotational load shedding. Eskom has targeted the weekend to conduct load shedding, should the need arise, on purpose so as to limit the impact on the economy.
Eskom will update the public on the status on an ongoing basis.
Eskom calls on consumers to urgently switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day to alleviate the pressure on the system and limit the need for rotational load shedding.
According to Mbombela municipality only three blocks will be affected this weekend.
The first block is Nelsriver, which include Riverside precinct, Elawini, Drum Rock, Ridge Hill, Kiaat Hospital, Casino,Government Complex and The Grove Shopping Centre. These areas will be affected on Saturday between 08:30 – 10:30 and on Sunday between 06:00 – 08:30.
The second block is Rocky Drift, which include Rocky Drift and White River Country estates. These areas will be affected on Saturday between 10:00 – 12:30 and on Sunday between 10:00 – 12:30.
The third block is Delta, which include the Steiltes area, Vintonia, Riverside Industrial, Valencia, Orchards, Nelsville, Kamagugu, Water Works, CBD, Village Spar, Crossings SUPERSPAR, the Show Grounds. the Croc Valley area and Bateleur Estates. These areas will be affected on Saturday between 10:00 – 12:30 and on Sunday between 10:00 – 12:30 and from 20:00 – 22:30.
