MACHADODORP – At least 50 pupils of the recently opened state-of-the-art Emakhazeni Boarding School were hospitalised on Wednesday after an alleged food-poisoning incident.
This was confirmed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in a press release today. According to the party, the learners were admitted to a hospital in Waterval Boven, but their parents were not permitted to see them.
“There are no reports yet as to what led to the food poisoning,” the DA said. According to the statement the children were discharged on Thursday.
The party expressed its concern about these developments and called for an urgent investigation. “We will directly engage the MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule to find answers,” the statement reads. It also urged the MEC to make a public statement on how this could have happened.
