MBOMBELA – The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport (DPWRT) says it plans to budget for renovations to the office building, Andersen 66, in the next financial year.
Lowvelder recently reported that the department of economic development’s employees were in the process of moving their offices out of the building due to its deteriorating state. Employees of health and social development remain.
According to spokesman for the DPWRT, Mr David Nkambule, his department is responsible for the maintenance work as the custodian of the building which is owned by the provincial government.
He says the building has not been condemned. “It is part of plans for maintenance in 2015/16 financial year.”
Yet the health department is also planning maintenance work. According to its spokesman Mr Dumisani Malamule, his department has already allocated funds for maintenance work in the building where its Ehlanzeni offices are based.
“Assessments have been done and contractors are to commence with work on January 26 to be completed by March 31. This also includes fixing of lifts and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment,” he said last week.
“The contractors will commence with areas that are vacant and once they are finished personnel will be moved to areas ready for occupation.”
But Nkambule says, “Other client departments are responsible for cleaning.”
