MBOMBELA – To keep your travelling time from South Africa to Mozambique or vice versa to a minimum, Trans African Concessions (TRAC) has provided some facts that could save you a lot of time.
Travelling from SA to Moz:
• There will be a traffic control point at the Marloth Park turn-off. Delays of up to 30 minutes are expected.
• Taxis and buses, keep to the right lane. Proceed with Coopersdal Road, rejoin the N4 at the Strydomblok turn-off and into the commercial facility for clearance and escort to the border (no trucks).
• From the traffic control point at Marloth Park, private vehicles and trucks will be directed to proceed straight on the N4 to the border for clearance by border officials. Minor delays are expected.
• Private vehicles diverting onto other roads to rejoin the N4 to Lebombo at other intersections or turn-offs, will be delayed as priority will be given to traffic already on the N4.
• Private vehicles must keep to the right lane passing the BP garage en-route to the border post. The left lane is reserved for trucks, convoys and official vehicles only.
• Note that no vehicles under escort to the border post will be allowed to turn or divert except for emergency. Ensure that vehicles have fuel before reaching kilometre seven to ensure clearance of all passengers.
• Vehicles en-route to Komatipoort, Kruger National Park or Ngwenya Lodge are advised to use the Tenbosch turn-off.
Travelling from Moz to SA:
• There will be three lanes of traffic westbound (the direction of the border), Mozambique – South Africa, and one lane in the opposite direction.
• There will be seven stop areas, one next to Moamba, for observation purposes only, one compulsory stop at 10- and 14 kilometres and another next to the cemetery in Ressano Garcia.
• At the remaining three locations the traffic will be split as follows:
Main dispatching of travellers at kilometres four and seven.
Organising of police escort at kilometer 4.
• Each control point will be manned by the police, customs and immigration officials.
• Public transport terminal will be transferred to the Ressano Garcia Border Post.
Minimal disruption is expected on the N4 but TRAC nonetheless strongly urges all motorists to drive with care and patience.
