Department of Health denies poor service at local clinic

However, he added that complaints would be investigated as it was the department's policy that patients weren't allowed to be left unattended.

The Department of Health (DoH) has reacted to the issues raised by unhappy patients who recently visited the Nelspruit Community Health Centre. Nelspruit Post reported on these last week.

According to Mr Dumisani Malamule, spokesman for the DoH, the clinic had a good service-delivery record.

“The allegations that patients queue from 04:00 until late without being attended to and nurses taking two hours’ lunch, are news to the department,” Malamule said. According to him, all patients who came to the clinic were attended to on time.

However, he added that complaints would be investigated as it was the department’s policy that patients weren’t allowed to be left unattended. Systems had been put in place to make sure that patients were attended to at all times whether it was lunchtime or not. “When nurses go on lunch others must remain to attend to the patients.”

With regard to the shortage of medication, Malamule said all the clinics had enough in supply.
