MBOMBELA – The former head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga who returned to work this week, is expected to be suspended further pending the internal disciplinary hearing against him.
Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, spokesman for the Hawks confirmed yesterday that Maj Gen Simon Mapyane returned to work in Mbombela on Wednesday. He had been removed from his position by former Hawks head Lt Gen Anwar Dramat in November after Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union staged a sit-in at the provincial head office in Mbombela.
“There was a court order that barred him from going to the office, which we believe he has violated,” Mulaudzi said. “I have been informed that he was served with another notice of suspension. I have not been able to confirm if he has signed for it.”
Mapyane stands accused of five counts of fraud related to travel claims. He was arrested on the charges in May 2012. He is due back in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on May 27.
