KAMHLUSHWA – Last Thursday the Komatipoort K9 Unit arrested a 25-year-old local woman, Ms Precious Ngomane, for the possession of seven bags of dagga.
The compressed bags weighed 140,85 kilograms, and had a street value of
R422 400. Spokesman for Tonga Police Station, Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, said due to the alarming rate of marijuana-possession arrests the SAPS would pay more attention to such cases. He said, “Things can not keep going on like this, it has to come to a end.”
Nyambi said they would intensify efforts in the fight against this crime.
“We are not going to sit back and watch these offenders destroy our communities, and more concerningly the youth have become their target market. So there is no way we are going to give them free rein to do so.
“Dagga is not acceptable in the community as many crimes emanate from the abuse of this drug. As the police we fully condemn its use,” Nyambi said.
He then applauded the community members who had notified the police of the house where Ngomane was arrested.
“Working together we can do more,” Nyambi added. The suspect appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of dagga possession.
She was released with a warning and is expected back in court on April 13.
