Storms damage furniture and properties in Praktiseer

“The rain entered in our homes, we were scared that we were going to drown in our houses. I had to lift my kids and take them out through the windows,” said one of the victims Ms Martha Ngobeni.

BURGERSFORT – Heavy rainfall caused severe flooding on Thursday afternoon, with some families’ properties and furniture damaged.

About three families in Praktiseer Extension 2 revealed to the Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the heavy rains wrecked havoc in their homes.

When the paper visited the area this morning, furniture like wardrobes, beds and refrigerators were wet and damaged.
“We blame the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM)  for not having a proper drainage system in the area, now we have to work hard to bring some balance in our lives,” they complained.
Meanwhile other residents were relieved to witness the rain, “Our livestock were deeply affected by the lack of rain. It’s better now they will drink and graze well, they said.
