MBOMBELA – Every year, the city’s classiest women get together for an evening of glitz and glamour. This annual event is called “Her Majesty the Queen” and is an exclusive formal ladies night like no other. On Friday, the Emnotweni Arena was packed with more than 400 guests who attended this year’s unforgettable masquarade-themed event.
“The event raised much-needed funds for Guardian Angels, a registered non-profit organisation that has been catering for the needs of the area’s elderly since 2010,” said organiser Jackie Maritz. She and co-organisers Marcel van Doorn, Stacey Bockel and Sarah-Jane van Heerden, pulled out all the stops to ensure that guests experienced nothing but royalty from the moment they set foot in the arena.
In the foyer, various exhibitors displayed glitzy shoes, accessories and swimwear. Prizes such as luxurious massages, beautiful handbags, spa vouchers and a mystery basket filled with goodies, were handed out during lucky draws throughout the evening. A soundtrack with songs like “It’s got to be perfect” by Fairground Attraction played in the background while guests, seated at beautifully decorated tables, chatted away merrily. A three-course meal fit for a queen was served and a wide variety of drinks were available.
When the night’s formalities were over, the royal highnesses flocked to the dance floor, where they jammed for hours. The evening’s turnout pleased Jackie and her team immensely. “Now we’re looking forward to next year!” said an excited Sarah-Jane.
