Toddler sisters die in shack fire

The girls were found under a bed where they died

BRONDAL – Two sisters have died after their shack caught fire at about 06:00 this morning.

The shack is situated in a squatter camp on the R37, about 23 kilometres from Mbombela.

According to a media statement from Netcare 911, reports from the scene indicate that the children, aged two and three years old, were alone at the time when the shack caught fire.

“When Netcare911 paramedics arrived on scene, we found that the fire had already been extinguished. We also found the children, both girls,  still lying under the bed where they died,” the statement read.

They were both declared dead by Netcare911 paramedics.

Lowvelder enquired from Mbombela police spokesman, Capt Dawie Pretorius, about the incident. He confirmed it, but couldn’t say what case was being investigated.
