According to Hi-Tech operations manager, Mr Callum Mac Pherson, Hi-Tech’s armed response officers, Mr Danie Erasmus and Mr Mandla Fundama, noticed a man acting suspiciously in the Alkmaar area that night.

“They approached him and found his bakkie loaded with illegal cigarettes,” he said.
According to Mac Pherson, the suspect was arrested and 20 cartons of illegal cigarettes were seized.

In another incident on the same day, two men entered a shop in Meidlinger Street. “One suspect kept the shop assistant busy, while the other went into the office next door and stole a laptop,” he said.
Mac Pherson said a member of the public had informed them that they were in Wolfaardt Street. Hi-Tech searched for the suspects in that area. “We found one hiding in a building. He had tried to hide the overalls he was wearing at the time of the incident,” he said.
Mac Pherson added that the suspect was arrested but his accomplice managed to evade capture.

Mac Pherson urged business owners to be careful, especially during opening and closing times.
“Criminals normally target businesses during these times, so try and keep remote panic buttons on more than one staff member,” he said.
