Safety tips to protect your business against criminals

Due to the recent spate of robberies at local businesses in the city, Hi-Tech Security's armed response operations manager, Mr Callum Mac Pherson, shared some safety tips for businesses.

• Ensure that your business has ample lighting, especially during this time of year when first light comes later and last light arrives earlier.

• Carry a remote panic button with you for the business. If you are in range of the alarm, a signal will be sent if activated in a crisis situation.

• If anything looks out of place near the business, leave the area and contact your security company to escort you in.

• For businesses fortunate enough to have remote camera monitoring: contact your security company when opening or closing to keep an eye on you.

• Outside beams eliminate the time criminals usually have to break in. Whereas the act of grabbing the products they want takes mere seconds, it is the physical breaking-in that consumes time.

• Break-ins through roofs of businesses have been increasing. Ensure that you have ample coverage (such as roof censors) in the roof of your business. Link it to your alarm system. It will alert you in case of a security breach.
