TONGA – A patient with a history of mental illness escaped the local hospital around 15:00 on Tuesday and was found earlier today.
The man was admitted to the hospital on August 10 after being taken into custody by the Komatipoort Police. He was allegedly violent towards people and threw stones at passing vehicles in the area.
The patient was treated and stabilized at the hospital and scheduled to be discharged on August 26, as his condition improved.
However, the process was put on hold after discovering that he is a Mozambican National. The Department of Health decided to keep him at the hospital until his next of kin could be located and started with arrangements to deport him back to Mozambique, via the Department of Home Affairs.
The man is in his late thirties and speaks Portuguese and a little Shangaan. He left the hospital still in his hospital clothes.
The patient was found at Engwenyeni and brought back to the hospital.
The Department of Health would like to thank the community for their support during the search and their help in finding the patient.
