Missing Swiss search: Monday, September 19 at 15:30

The search for Mr Nick Wiesmann has again taken on another dimension.

MBOMBELA – Members of the region’s Off Road Rescue Unit (ORRU) have begun to search the Lowveld Botanical Gardens’ ponds for any trace of Mr Nick Wiesmann.

Wiesmann has now been missing for 45 hours.

The ORRU team have been part of the search since he was reported missing on Saturday night.

One hour ago, Lowvelder reported (September 19, 2016 at 14:30):

MBOMBELA – Mr Nick Wiesmann, a Swiss citizen who lives in Cape Town,* has now been missing for 44 hours.

The SAPS’ canine and diving units have been investigating his missing person’s case since yesterday. They were accompanied by fingerprint technician Const August Sambo at 13:00.

Wiesmann disappeared from the Lowveld Botanical Gardens on Saturday night at 18:15.

Numerous searches have revealed no trace of the man. Fingerprint technicians are now lifting prints off his rental car as part of their investigation.

Lowvelder will update readers on progress in the matter.

* Lowvelder previously reported that Wiesmann was a tourist. The paper has since confirmed that he is in fact a Swiss citizen with South African residency. He has lived in Cape Town with his wife, Bettina Wiesmann, for the past few years.

This morning, Lowvelder reported:

MBOMBELA – A search team consisting of SAPS members, police divers and the police’s search and rescue unit joined the search for Mr Nick Wiesmann (76) this morning.

Wiesmann was reported missing after having attended a wedding in the Lowveld Botanical Gardens on Saturday.

Members of Bossie’s Commnity Jistuce, the region’s Off Road Rescue Unit and Er 24’s Mr Greg Wilcox have been searching for him since Saturday night.

The, now larger, group met at the gardens this morning and are continuing with the search. Tracking dogs will also be used.
