Cops seize 205 kg of dagga

Police found dagga worth over R800 000 in Schoemansdal after following a tip-off from community members.

SCHOEMANSDAL – Members of the Crime Intelligence and K9-unit seized 205 kilograms of dagga on September 7.

Police from the Tonga cluster received a tip-off stating that two men were transporting dagga in the area.

They managed to find the vehicle and upon searching it, discovered bags of dagga to the estimated value of R820 640.

Mr Nhlanhla Vilane and Mr Alfred Khoza, both 26-years-old, were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. The vehicle and drugs were seized and booked at the Schoemansdal Police Station.

The two men appeared in the Boschfontein Periodical Court the day after their arrest and remained in custody until their bail application hearing on September 13.

At time of going to print, the outcome of the hearing was not yet known.

Tonga cluster commander, Maj Gen Dorah Xaba, thanked community members for the tip-off and the SAPS members who acted swiftly on the information. She stated that teamwork is essential to combat crime.
