Murder case opened after bloodied body found

Police have confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the body that was found next to the R40 this morning, has led them to open a murder case.

UPDATE: 09:55 

Police spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius has confirmed that the police have opened a murder case after they had received evidence and information at the crime scene.  The crime scene has already been cleared and bystanders have left the area.

Police are not willing to give details regarding what injuries were found on the body due to the ongoing investigation.

MBOMBELA – The body of an unidentified man was found this morning next to Crossings Shopping Centre.  Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit officer, Mr Riaan Horward, said he was at the centre at around 06:15 when he discovered the body.

“An unknown man approached me and said there was someone lying in the grass close to the bridge, “he said.

He said he went to investigate and came across the dead man. “He seemed to be in his late twenties or early thirties.”

He said he saw blood and there was a mark on the back of his neck. At the scene, police spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius said their crime investigation and forensics teams were still busy investigating the matter. More information will be published as it becomes available.
