Police spokesman, Capt Dawie Pretorius, said there were five male occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
He said the bakkie was apparently travelling in the direction of Riverside Mall, when it lost control and veered off the bridge near Crocodile River.
ER24’s branch manager, Mr Greg Wilcox, said the incident had occurred shortly after 20:00. According to Wilcox, there were two males inside the vehicle and two outside, lying on the ground. “The men seemed to be in their twenties.”

Upon his arrival, one man was already dead. “The other patient was in a critical condition. He had severe fractures to the lower legs.” Wilcox said they treated another patient for a fracture to the right leg as well. The provincial EMS and Hi-Tech medical services helped to transport the patients to Rob Ferreira Hospital.
He added that the emergency services had responded to eight accidents that night within a three-hour period. “It could have been due to the wet conditions.”
Pretorius said the police had opened a case of culpable homicide.
