
MBOMBELA – A pregnant female named Samantha was removed from her home this week, after her neighbors claimed she posed a risk to their safety. This was because Samantha is a Southern python – the new name for an African Rock python.
Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit’s operations manager Mr Callum Mac Pherson said they received a call out to La Roi Estate on the Kaapsehoop road on Wednesday morning, where Samantha had been found near a house.

“As there are small children and pets, a large snake like this could pose a threat,” he said. “Concerned residents called us and we captured her.” Samantha is three meters long. The team called in Mpumalanga Parks and Tourism Agency (MPTA) animal catcher Mr Chris Hobkirk. “We took her to him to be chipped for research. He also informed us she is a mother to be.”
