Update: Video of cash-in-transit gang escaping with empty bag

Paramedics witness shootout at shopping centre.

MBOMBELA –  A shootout occurred during a failed attempt to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle this morning.

According to Netcare 911  media liaison officer, Ms Athlenda Mathe, the incident happened at 08:32.

She said  paramedics came across a shooting during an attempted cash-in-transit heist at The Grove.

“Netcare911 paramedics called police and a local security company to secure the area,” Mathe said.

She said their team  included an emergency-care practitioner, an intermediate life-support paramedic and a basic ambulance assistant.

Mathe said after police secured the scene, paramedics rushed to assess the three security officers as well as bystanders who were at the shopping centre.

No one was injured.

Police spokesman, Capt Dawie Pretorius, said the suspects got away with an empty bag and police were investigating a case of armed robbery.
