Police track down vehicle soon after robbery

Robbers raided a house early yesterday morning and fled in the victim's vehicle, but police managed to track it down soon after.

TONGA – Police recovered a vehicle soon after it was stolen during a house robbery yesterday in Phiva at 03:00.

According to Tonga SAPS spokesman, Mzwandile Nyambi, a 62-year-old man and his family were asleep when four men entered the main bedroom.

They allegedly gained entry by breaking a door handle with a spade.

One of the suspects threatened the couple with a firearm and demanded money. They searched the house and took four cellphones, an air rifle and a wallet, and fled with the victim’s Toyota Fortuner.

The victims reported the incident to Tonga SAPS and opened a case of house robbery.

Police quickly started tracking down the vehicle with the help of Tracker and Crime Intelligence, and located it at the Lebombo Mountains near the Mozambican border.

Investigations continue and anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, are urged to contact the investigating officer on 082-960-6545.
