Man killed after opening fire on police

The man allegedly used a police pistol stolen from Acornhoek earlier this year.

A man who fired shots at a fuel station in Hazyview at 20:45 last night, was shot and killed by the police.
Provincial police spokesman, Brig Leonard Hlathi, who confirmed the incident, said that the police heard shots and responded to the scene.
“They warned the suspect to drop his weapon, after which he opened fire,” he said.  Police returned fire, killing the man.
Hlathi added the man allegedly used a police pistol stolen from Acornhoek earlier this year. “No members of the public or police officers were wounded,” Hlathi concluded.
