Suspected drunk driver released on bail after safety volunteer deaths

The accused is expected back in court on October 20.

Zakhele Dube, accused of driving under the influence and causing the deaths of safety volunteers Donovan Prince and Zelma D’Hollander, was granted bail of R5 000 in the Malelane Periodical Court today (September 3).

Dube was arrested after allegedly crashing into an accident scene on the N4 at the Jeppes Reef Junction on August 23.

Two safety volunteers who were assisting at the scene were killed, while a third, Letta Taylor, remains in critical condition in hospital.

The defence requested bail of R2 000, but the magistrate set it at R5 000.

Dube is expected to appear in court again on October 20.
