FTLM mobilises emotional and logistical support for Dullstroom crash victims

The FTLM mayor, Eddie Maila, expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the affected communities

In the aftermath of the fatal Dullstroom crash, the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) has launched a comprehensive support initiative to assist grieving families and survivors.

The municipality confirmed that six of the deceased hailed from Kgautšwane and Ohrigstad, with a seventh victim who later succumbed to injuries at Lydenburg Hospital.

The impact of the tragedy has reverberated across Limpopo and Mpumalanga, prompting swift interprovincial co-ordination.

Mayor Eddie Maila expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the affected communities.

“This heartbreaking tragedy has brought immense sorrow to the FTLM family,” he said.

“The loss of our community members in such a sudden and painful manner is a heavy blow to us all.”

Mayor Eddie Maila conveys heartfelt condolences to those affected by the Dullstroom tragedy.

In response, Maila’s office arranged transport for families to visit survivors in hospitals across Mbombela and Lydenburg.

On Tuesday, municipal vehicles were dispatched to Middelburg to assist relatives in collecting the remains of their loved ones.

The mayor also thanked Limpopo premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, for her immediate intervention. Ramathuba engaged her Mpumalanga counterpart to fast-track post-mortem procedures and ensure that families received timely updates and support.

A post-mortem was scheduled for October 28, with extra staff assigned to assist with co-ordination and documentation.

Beyond logistics, FTLM has prioritised emotional care.

The municipality has approached the Department of Social Development in the Sekhukhune District to provide psycho-social services, including trauma counselling and grief support. Mobile teams have been dispatched to affected households to offer on-site assistance.

Faith leaders and community organisations have also been invited to participate in memorial planning and spiritual support.

“We stand with the bereaved in grief, prayer and solidarity,” Maila said. “May the departed souls rest in eternal peace, and may the families find strength and comfort during this difficult time.”

The municipality continues to liaise with law enforcement and health authorities in Mpumalanga as further details are verified. Plans are under way to host a joint memorial service, pending consultation with families and religious leaders.
