Several injured in accident in Marloth Park

Emergency services and the Marloth Park CPF managed the scene after a Kia bakkie rolled in Olifant Street, resulting in 20 people being treated and transported to hospital.

An accident occurred in Olifant Street, Marloth Park on February 28.

Dewald Strydom of iSecure Ambulance Service confirmed they were on scene, where about 16 people were initially reported to be involved, with three sustaining minor injuries.

The incident involved a Kia bakkie that rolled multiple times, flinging several people. The road was temporarily blocked while emergency personnel attended to the scene.

The Marloth Park CPF assisted extensively alongside SAPS and managed traffic while recovery operations were underway.

According to Patrik D’Hollander, chairperson of the Hectorspruit CPF, who was on scene as an emergency volunteer, a total of 20 patients were transported to Tonga and Shongwe hospitals, with injuries ranging from Priority 1 to Priority 2. Patients were primarily treated and transported by Securicon EMS, Lowmed EMS and Provincial EMS.

Emer-G-Med was also dispatched to assist but was later stood down after additional Provincial EMS ambulances were able to transport the remaining patients.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear, and an investigation has been launched.
