Cape Town court postpones Karin van Aardt murder case
The three accused in Karin van Aardt’s murder appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on February 26, but the case was postponed pending outstanding forensic reports.
Ndiyabulela Vayi, Thando Nkolongo and Yamnkela Mdunyelwa, the three accused in the murder of Karin van Aardt, appeared again in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court, Cape Town, on February 26, after they withdrew their bail applications on December 19, 2025.
According to Eric Ntabazalila, spokesperson for the Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority, the case was postponed to May 6 as the postmortem, chain of statements, and DNA report were still outstanding.

Karin and her husband, Herman, had flown from Mbombela to Cape Town on December 5 last year and were travelling to Vredenburg for their grandchild’s eighth birthday when they were attacked in a smash-and-grab incident that resulted in her death.

The state previously alleged that the three men had lain in wait next to Jakes Gerwel Drive and, when the couple stopped at a red traffic light, attacked their rental vehicle.
